The Twitter Badge of Honor

Disclaimer:

I try my best to keep all of my blog projects separate. It makes it easier for me to focus and it keeps topics away from each other.

When it comes to politics, I understand a lot of people are burnt out or simply, turned off, by political discussions.

In this day and age, it's difficult to keep politics separate. I can't explain it, but I have several examples I could use as proof of my claim.

"The Leftovers", remains as the one project with an actual interest in a political discussion.

This post does mention politics, though.

It's merely a forewarning.

If you don't like politics, turn back now.

................

I've noticed a lot of people on Twitter who get blocked by certain users, wear it like a badge of honor.

The most popular badge, "Blocked by @RealDonaldTrump".

If you've been blocked by President Trump himself, well, you must have done something really "cool" to have earned it. Or, maybe you just sent a 250 character long stream of curse words at him.

Either way, you're "cool" in the book of Twitter.

I don't think getting blocked on Twitter is great, but it does say something.

For instance, I'm currently blocked by not just one, but two, media personalities.

From the same set of tweets nonetheless. Two tweeting birds, one virtual stone.

Maybe not as high of an achievement as some others, but I'm proud I did it without having to swear, bully, or harass my way onto their respective block lists.

It all started with the Parkland, Florida shooting.

Some survivors of the school shooting took part in a Town Hall meeting on CNN.

Jake Tapper hosted the Town Hall, 3 Florida politicians participated, including, Florida Senator Marco Rubio. Broward County Sheriff, Scott Israel also participated. Even NRA Spokesperson, Dana Loesch was there.

The survivors sat directly across the stage from these people. They were brave, respectful, and strong the entire time. It was a group of teenagers, "versus" a handful of adults, all currently in extremely powerful positions.

The survivors' appearance on television immediately came under fire.

"They're Liberal sheep.", "CNN giving us "Fake News" as usual.", "Why should we listen to what these kids have to say?", and "The survivors were coached before they went on stage.".

There's a lot of things I could say about these comments but, I want to focus on the narrative being pushed by, Mr. Tony Bruno.

Here, Mr. Bruno showcases his beliefs about Jake Tapper, Scott Israel, and CNN. This tweet will tie into comments Mr. Bruno about the Parkland survivors later.

Shortly after CNN's Town Hall, footage from outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was released.

The footage shows an armed security guard, riding in a golf cart, trying to find an entry into the High School, and then, never entering the building.

The armed deputy, Scot Peterson, was suspended without pay for his actions. He then resigned as a result of the reprimand and a lawsuit has since been filed against the Broward County Sheriff's Department.

There's currently an ongoing investigation, into the Broward County Sheriff's Department, including the department's previous handling of the shooter, Nikolas Cruz.

After the shooting, there has been a lot of false information used to push offensive narratives. One, is this particular stance, "Armed security guards and officers who stood outside the school and did nothing, are cowards.".

If you're claiming someone guilty, before a trial, you're unfit to handle any matter based on law, order, and justice.

Also, there was only one shooter.

Jumping on the bandwagon of "Internet Tribalism" in calling police officers, "cowards", is disgusting. Even more so, if you have your own radio show.

If none of these tweets convince you of the kind of personality, Tony Bruno is.

Here's this gem of a tweet.

A media personality openly promoting vandalism of government property.

I took screenshots and compiled as many of, Mr. Bruno's tweets as I could before he blocked me.

What got Mr. Bruno's attention?

Our initial interactions came as a result of Mr. Bruno tweeting out he believed the Parkland shooting survivors were, "sheep".

Unfortunately, I didn't get a screenshot of Mr. Bruno's original tweet. My tweet should serve as enough evidence to the initial tweet's contents. Anyone who has Twitter can reverse search by using my response as well. Feel free to do so if you'd like.

As I was looking through Mr. Bruno's profile, I noticed ABC 33/40's own James Spann follows Mr. Bruno.

In the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, there were almost 65K people directly connected to the dangerously false narratives, "Parkland, Florida shooting survivors are sheep.", and "Broward County deputies are cowards.", through Mr. Bruno's Twitter account.

The number attached would be much larger if I could see how many followers, Mr. Spann has.

I initially wanted to contact ABC 33/40 to ask about their Social Media policies.

Recently, there have been a few media outlets who found themselves in hot water through similar circumstances.

The only response I received from ABC 33/40 is, it's James Spann's personal Twitter account.

I find this response odd considering, Mr. Spann doesn't have any other Twitter account.

If his account is used for business, as a weatherman for ABC 33/40, and he's also following Twitter personalities with a questionable history, some kind of action should be taken. At the least, update your Social Media policy.

I know what ABC 33/40 should be doing, but I highly doubt they will take any kind of meaningful action. If for some strange reason, they do take action, they should preferably do it sometime before they give Mr. Spann an Emmy.
