Twitter Highlights 3.0/2018

My attempts to keep, "@nti-social", non-political are becoming increasingly difficult.

It seems my politically charged tweets are the only ones constantly and consistently finding themselves at the top of the monthly analytics.

Of course, March was filled with conversations about gun control. In the aftermath of the Parkland shooting and with nationwide demonstrations held by March For Our Lives, it was bound to happen.

I've written a lot about this particular subject as I've grown tired and frustrated by hearing yet another mass shooting has occurred, and the expected cycle of apathy takes another lap around town.

When discussions about gun control aren't being derailed by apathy, non-sensical "ammosexual" rhetoric rears its ugly and ignorant head.

For example, a thread I took part in was discussing one lawmaker's thoughts about an assault rifle ban. Of course, a staunch 2nd Amendment defender overacted and went right to the "Liberals are attacking all gun owners!", playbook.

No, they are not.

When talking about assault rifles, the conversation often turns to the specifics of guns. Because for some strange reason, a lot of people on, "The Right", believe most people on, "The Left", don't know enough about guns, including, in-depth minor details of every single gun, and therefore, should not be allowed to make decisions on how to go about controlling said guns.

Some of the people who have thoughts in this same category, even choose to focus on the simple differences between semi-automatic and fully automatic. Does it really matter to the overall assault rifle ban style conversations?

No, it doesn't.

Even though I believe conversations about gun control need to happen, they are exhausting and filled with ridiculous beliefs. The majority of these beliefs, come from the political side having far more to lose.

If you're trying to defend your own personal right to purchase, own, and represent yourself as a responsible gun enthusiast in this kind of manner, you're doing it wrong.
